… a few tea bags shy…

Aunt Mary is a few tea bags shy of a full pot and uncle Jack is a few sandwiches short of a picnic. What kind of family is this?

Lunch, tea time?

it seems that aunt mary is trying to have fun with her family…but maybe she’s a little crazy. or even just mentally challenged! is that right?

  2. Alina Alens says:

    What about old uncle Jack?

  3. Magda says:

Aunt Mary is a charming, delicate and caring person – it’s the first idea which came to mind. She takes care of home, but she isn’t a little housewife. Uncle gives a family sence of security and makes a final decisions… woman is a neck, man is a head.

nice comment. so these ‘ sayings’ are semi sarcastic ways of saying that someone is a litttle bit crazy…

Husband: “My niece has had a tough life.”
Wife: “I hear the violins playing…”
    Husband: “But she’s just a poor girl…”
Wife:”Yeah, one dead dog away from a country song.”
    (adaptation from “Desperate Housewives”)

What do you make of the wife’s last reply?

Similar expressions can be found in the song “I’m going slightly mad” by Queen:
“I’m one card short of a full deck
    I’m not quite the shilling
One wave short of a shipwreck”

Here’s another one from the “Cybill” comedy series:
    😀
“One Moroccan short of a mariachi band.”

    Or from “Law & Order”:

    “She has a short fuse…”
